Our Complete Programs

Why College Mastermind?

We understand that sometimes parents and students want to customize the level of support they receive. Our group programs support every aspect of your application from start to finish.

The process of applying to US universities is complex and highly competitive, with many of the best schools accepting around 10% of applicants or less. International acceptance rates tend to be lower than domestic acceptance rates, meaning an application from an international student has to stand out as exceptional in order to gain admission. • Demonstrate your motivation
  • Demonstrate your personal strengths

We will also give you concrete advice regarding which teacher you should ask for your letter, to improve your chances of getting a recommendation that highlights your best qualities.

Why do we offer this? Many students ask for a Letter of Recommendation without making personal requests about what they want to highlight about themselves. This can result in very dull, average, or unappealing letters of recommendation that do nothing to lift your application up.

What can you expect? In this 2 hour workshop, you will meet with your group mentor, who will give you a brief lesson about what makes a strong letter of recommendation. Then you will fill out the Letter of Recommendation request form for your teacher. You will also be given a checklist with step-by-step guidance on exactly what you need to do to get the letter of recommendation from your former teacher.

Group Interview Preparation

10. Group Interview Preparation

Many universities require international students to have an interview after they receive your application. We help you prepare for the interview so that you feel confident and relaxed in the real one.
We prepare you to do very well in the interviews by addressing the following:

  • Preparation of frequently asked questions
  • Cultural differences of Americans in interviews
  • How to answer a question when you don’t have the language to explain it
  • How to move on quickly from a question you don’t know how to answer
  • How to be likable and confident in an interview
  • How to dress for an interview

Why do we offer this? We want you to feel completely comfortable and confident in your interview. Some of these interviews are very important because they will be assessing your language skills, ability to communicate, and likelihood of fitting into the culture of the university.

What can you expect? This is a 3-part workshop series that will prepare you for successful university interviews. All of these skills can be directly applied to your visa interviews too, when the time comes.

Part 1 – An Interview Specialist will teach you everything you need to know about a successful interview and how to prepare for it. You will be given an assignment to take home and prepare various responses.

  • We also have been able to negotiate for the university to waive the requirement of buying personal health insurance, and to accept the insurance provided by the student’s home country.

We find ways to make selecting universities easier because we find ways for them to show you just how much they want you to attend by what they are willing to offer.

Why do we offer this? Making the final decision of where you want to spend the next few years of your life can be very challenging. This also gives us the opportunity to get students financial or personal incentives from the universities that are only available to our clients.

What can you expect? You will meet with your group mentor who will bring the final selection choices you have, as well as any incentives the university has offered to you. We will help you decide the most important factors to you based on the goals you mentioned in the Initial Evaluation.

In a third session, your Personal Advisor will present the hook project idea to you, as well as the complete theme and strategy that will be implemented to make every aspect of your application as perfect as possible. Your Personal Advisor will show you the plan and the first steps necessary to make your best application a reality.

Once you both agree on the plan, you will be scheduled with your Hook Project Mentor, who will begin to implement the details of the Hook Project with you.

If you need to update your plan at any time, or need more action steps to take, then you will discuss these in any of your sessions with your Personal Advisor.

Private Hook Creation and Implementation –Full support in the creation and implementation of a Hook Project or Research Opportunity that will make your application unique, impressive, and powerful.

05. Private Hook Creation and Implementation

Many universities in the US are extremely competitive in their application and enrollment processes. As a College Mastermind VIP client, we build you a unique project or opportunity to elevate your application and make it powerful and memorable.
The most unique students who are doing great things with their free time are considered the most desirable to the top universities in the United States. We display your strengths in a hook project or opportunity to demonstrate some of the following qualities.

  • Innovation
  • Service
  • Character
  • Ingenuity
  • Motivation
  • Creativity
  • Passion
  • Work ethic

Only students who are able to show that they use their free time exceptionally are able to be admitted to the top ranked universities in the United States. Many universities accept less than 10% of applicants. In order for you to be one of those students, we use a hook project to demonstrate your exceptional thinking and abilities.

Not all students who do our VIP package are looking to go to the most competitive universities, so for those students we still use this time to strategize the best way to highlight or add unique and exceptional activities to that portion of your application.
The intensity of the hook project and the demands it will place on you, will be directly related to the difficulty of admissions for the universities that you would like to attend.

Why do we offer this? Having good grades and good scores is not enough to get admitted to the best universities in the United States. You need some unique factor that will demonstrate your exceptional characteristics and abilities.

Having a “hook” will always help your chances of admission, so even students who do not select the most competitive universities will be more likely to get acceptance letters than those students who do not.

What can you expect? Your Hook Project Mentor will meet with your Personal Advisor to discuss the project that you two have decided to undertake. After that meeting, you will meet with your Hook Project Mentor as often as necessary to get this project done.

Everything you need help with in implementing the project or opportunity will be provided. Some examples of things we help students do:

Build a website to support an entrepreneurial task you wish to undertake
Make phone calls and connections to help your process
Help you write proposals, business plans, or anything else needed to get your project off the ground
Give you advice as to how to fundraise if funds are needed

We will help you bring this project to life and make it very impressive for universities.

Private Interview Preparation for University Interviews

11. Private Interview Preparation for University Interviews

Many universities require international students to have an interview after they receive your application. We help you prepare for the interview so that you feel confident and relaxed in the real one.

We prepare you to do very well in the interviews by addressing the following:

  • Introductions
  • How to build rapport at the beginning of the interview
  • How to conduct research about the university to demonstrate interest
  • Preparation of frequently asked questions
  • Cultural differences of Americans in interviews
  • How to answer a question when you don’t have the language to explain it
  • How to move on quickly from a question you don’t know how to answer
  • How to be likable and confident in an interview
  • How to dress for an interview

Why do we offer this? We want you to feel completely comfortable and confident in your interview. Some of these interviews are very important because they will be assessing your language skills, ability to communicate, and likelihood of fitting into the culture of the university.

What can you expect? This is a 4-part workshop series that will prepare you for successful university interviews. All of these skills can be directly applied to your visa interviews too, when the time comes.

Part 1 – An Interview Specialist will work with you privately to teach you everything you need to know about a successful interview and how to prepare for it. You will be given an assignment to take home and prepare various responses.

Part 2 – You will bring your prepared responses and practice them with your private Interview Specialist. You will be instructed to take good notes based on the responses everyone gives, and given another assignment to help you practice.

Part 3 – You will be placed in a mock interview situation with someone who you have never met before. He or she will give you guidance and feedback based on what you did, and you will receive a recording of your 15-20 minute interview to notice the things that you did well and the areas you need improvement. You will be interviewed on some questions you prepared and on some completely random questions.

Part 4 – You will review the recording with your Personal Advisor and discuss and practice the parts that needed more work.

You are welcome to repeat the process as many times as you like, and we will also help you prepare for your Visa interview when the time is right.

Private Decision Letter Analysis and Final University Selection Support – Once you have received all of your acceptance letters, we help you decide which university will be of most value to you.

12. Private Decision Letter Analysis and Final University Selection Support

Our clients tend to get so many acceptance letters, that they need help deciding which university will be the best choice for them. As a College Mastermind student, we help you make the final decision based on the choices that will bring you the most personal and professional benefits.

We do our best to try to call the universities and have them offer incentives for you to choose them. Some incentives we are able to secure could include any of the following:

  • Bookstore money to purchase all of your university textbooks for free – many international students have no idea that books can cost around $1,400 every year!
  • Reduced housing costs for university-provided housing
  • Reduced meal plan costs for campus dining services
  • Support finding accommodation
  • Daycare for children
  • Waiving late fees when your scholarships are delayed
  • Provide laptops at a very discounted rate for students
  • Eliminate registration fees, sports facility fees, student union fees, or any other small fees that can add up.

You will meet with your Personal Advisor, who will bring the final selection choices you have, as well as any incentives the university has offered to you. He or she will help you decide the most important factors to you based on the goals you mentioned in the Initial Evaluation and everything that was learned about you throughout the process of working together.

Once you have made your decision, your Person Advisor will notify all of the universities of your decision to either enroll with their university or decline the acceptance. He or she will ask the university to send us a list of everything they need from you to officially enroll, and then will send you all the details.

Visa support – We provide a checklist of all necessary supporting documents. We submit your application for you, and communicate with the Visa and Immigration Offices on your behalf. You will also be provided a video training to prepare for your visa interview.

13. Visa Support

All international students entering the US need to obtain a student (F-1) visa. We help you with this process, and fill out the forms for you so you don’t make any mistakes.

We prevent the most common mistakes students make when apply for a visa:

  • Choosing the wrong visa category or type
  • Poor attention to detail and thus providing incorrect information
  • Inconsistency of names on documents
  • Failure to prepare for the visa interview

Visa applications need to be completed IMMEDIATELY upon acceptance to a university.
We will provide you with private support to prepare for your interview, and it will be similar to the process we mentioned above for university interviews.

Why do we offer this? We really don’t like to see students who have gone through all of the challenges of applying be denied entrance into the country because of visa problems. We want to make this as smooth as possible.

What can you expect? We do the application for you, but you must pay all of the fees for visa processing and interview scheduling.

  • We give you a checklist of everything you need
  • You upload the forms and details onto our platform
  • We fill out and submit the application for you
  • You pay the application fees
  • We set up the interview for you
  • We give you a video to prepare for your interview

You will be notified once your visa is approved.

01. University Selection Support

Universities in the US are all extremely different. As a College Mastermind student, you’re given personalized support to build a list of universities that are right for you.

We want to make sure that all of your preferences are taken into account

  • The academic difficulty
  • The availability of your preferred area of study
  • The location of the university
  • The personality of the university

Although all of these are important, we always have to balance them with the likelihood that you will be accepted.

We will categorize your results into 4 groups:

1. Likely schools – These schools almost always grant admission to students with your grades, standardized test scores, and merits .
2. Target – these schools often grant admission to students with your grades, standardized test scores, and merits.
3. Reach – These schools rarely give admission to students with your grades, standardized test scores, and merits.
4. Unlikely – These schools almost never grant admission to students with your grades, standardized test scores, and merits.

We will also give you concrete advice as to how to improve your chances for each school with goals and targets for your scores and other areas of your application.

Why do we offer this? There are nearly 4,000 accredited universities in the United States. We can help you save a lot of time and research by telling you which schools are a good fit for you.

What can you expect? Our students fill out an in-depth questionnaire to help us narrow-down your search down to 10 options. From there, we help you build a balanced list of however many universities you would like to apply to. Our recommendation is 5.

(2) Likely Universities
(2) Target Universities
(1) Reach University

Once you have your list, we compare your current grades, standardized test scores, and merits to what is typically acceptable for those universities. Then we will give you some recommendations as to what you can do to improve your chances of admission.

How is the group option different from the private option?

Both options will help you build a list of up to 10 universities that match your preferences.

The main difference between the two is that with the private support, you have a personal advisor doing the research for you. Your advisor will take your questionnaire and, using our proprietary system, will deliver you results that match your preferences. Then you will discuss the results together to reduce the number of universities to the number you wish. You will be offered a write-up and the requirements of each university that you decide to apply to.

The group support comes in a group setting with other students. You are given lots of guidance and help to find the universities that match your preferences, and this helps you choose 10 universities that will be a good fit for you. Then you must do all of your own research to reduce your list down to the number of universities you decide to apply to. There will be a video and handout given to support you in this. You can return for more group guidance on your final decisions, and make sure that your list is balanced between likely, target, and reach universities.

02. Application Strategy

Your strategy mentor will work with you to create a strategy that will make your application strong and effective.

03. TOEFL/IELTS Preparation

Developed by one of the leading test prep companies in the United States, our TOEFL program gives you access to over 120 videos to improve all 4 sections tested on the exam: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

You are then paired with an expert Language Mentor, who will ensure you are on track with the lessons, and support you with the challenging areas of study. Your progress is monitored closely by your Language Mentor, and personalized assignments will be given to you based on their assessment.

You will have 200 hours of virtual interaction with a live teacher and class, and homework assignments to support your learning and memory. This is a intensive program designed to ensure you have the language skills necessary to attend college.

A placement test will determine your starting level, and you will be placed in a group with students of similar abilities.

Group tutoring is over a span of 8 weeks, while our personalized tutoring package will be customized to meet your specific needs.

Download a free ACT practice test

Insider tip – Many US Schools care more about your TOEFL scores than anything else. TOEFL scores are one of the first things a school looks at on an international student’s application. They want to make sure you will succeed at their college, and do not want language to hold you back!

04. Application Strategy

Developed by a Johns Hopkins University graduate and a college admissions test prep expert, College Mastermind’s ACT courses will get you the results you want in the least amount of time possible.

These scores are often more important for admissions for international students than they are for domestic students. Because class rigor is an essential component of US admissions, college admissions officers rely heavily on tests like the ACT to determine if a student is an academic fit for their institution.

Our program focuses on all 4 areas of the test: English, Math, Reading, and Science. You will have the chance to take 5 practice tests or more, and to watch your score improve quickly. We recommend that students who struggle with English language take the TOEFL/IELTS course before this course.

Group tutoring takes 8 weeks, while our personalized tutoring package will be customized to meet your specific needs.

Try a free practice test, and see how you do!

*Insider tip* – Colleges who partner with us give us their specific admissions test score cut-offs for international students. We have this list and can let you know if your current credentials are strong enough for you to gain admission into that institution.

05. Personal Statement and Supplemental Essay Guidance

A strong personal statement (also known as your college essay) and strong supplemental essays are essential to a competitive US application. Every student we work with is assigned an essay mentor, who guides them through writing a powerful, unique, and memorable essay.

The admissions essay has a surprisingly high level of importance in admissions decisions for international students. It is an opportunity to demonstrate the rich cultural differences you have experienced that will make you a great addition to the diversity of a university campus.

Our group program offers you assistance in strategizing the Personal Statement and Supplemental Essays. We provide suggestions and guidance on topics, elements of style, structure, tone, dictation, and demonstration of character. You will also receive support and feedback on your writing skills, grammar, and punctuation.

*insider tip* – We have deep and meaningful conversations with all of the colleges who partner with us. This helps us understand what those colleges look for among their international applicants, making your essay even more focused and effective!

Letters of Recommendation – Colleges rely on letters of recommendation to know if you have the personality, character traits, and academic abilities to succeed in their college. We guide our students to choose teachers from which teachers to ask for letters of recommendation, while giving them resources to help teachers insight as to how a helpful letter of recommendation

*Insider Tip* – Universities all have unique personalities. We have specific conversations with our partner colleges about what type of traits make a successful student at their school.
